 Ahmedabad,
the largest inland industrial center and the second largest industrial
center in Western India after Mumbai, is an important business center.
It is the largest city in the state of Gujarat and the 7th largest city
in India.
Demographics
As per 2001 census, Ahmedabad has a population of 5.2 million. There
are 886 females to every 1000 males. Ahmedabad has a literacy rate of
79.89%, which is the highest in Gujarat.
Climate in Ahmedabad
There are typically three main seasons - summer, monsoon and winter.
The climate is generally very dry. The weather is very hot between March
& June with the average summer temperature at 43°C. The months
of November-February have an average maximum temperature 36°C. The
climate is extremely dry during that period. Cold northerly winds are
responsible for a mild chill during January.
How to reach Ahmedabad?
Ahmedabad is well connected to all major cities of India and to some
international destinations as well through a combination of road, rail
and air routes.
- Air : The Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel
International Airport serves as both domestic as well as
international airport for the city and neighboring areas of
Gandhinagar, Nadiad and Vadodara. There are direct
flights from the city to all other major cities of India. It also
has direct international flights to cities of Middle East and Far
East.
- Rail : Ahmedabad is one of the six operating
divisions of the Western Railway and railway lines connect the city
to all major cities of India.
- Road : The National Highway 8, which connects
Delhi to Mumbai, passes though Ahmedabad.

Education in Ahmedabad
- There are many schools in Ahmedabad run by municipal corporation,
individual entities, trusts and corporations.
- A majority of the schools are affiliated with the Gujarat
Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board.
- Some schools like the DPS and the Kendriya Vidyalaya are
associated with the CBSE.
- A large number of colleges in the city are affiliated with the
Gujarat University and offer courses in medicine, engineering, arts,
science, commerce, law and management.
- Other well-known universities in Ahmedabad include the Nirma
University of Science & Technology and the Dr. Babasaheb

- The city is also home to prestigious institutions such as the

Important Industries in Ahmedabad
- Textiles : The textile industry has been the
main industry of Ahmedabad since 1861. Arvind Mills in Ahmedabad is
one of the largest textile mills in the country.
- Chemicals : Ahmedabad also has a commendable
chemicals and pharmaceuticals industry. Two of the biggest Indian
pharmaceutical companies, namely, Cadila Pharmaceuticals Ltd. and
Torrent Pharmaceuticals Ltd. are located here.
- IT : The last few years have seen the rise of
the Information Technology industry in Ahmedabad. A Nasscom survey
conducted in 2002 on the "Super Nine Indian Destinati ons"
for IT-enabled services (ITES) had ranked Ahmedabad fifth among the
top nine destinations.
- Trading House : The city serves as the
corporate headquarters of the Adani Group, a leading trading and
export company of India.
- Detergent : The detergent and chemical group-
Nirma also has it's corporate headquarters in the city.
