The summers in Kanpur starts in April and ends in June with maximum temperature reaching 45°C. At times, this is accompanied by dust storm-cum-heat-waves. Temperatures in winters drop to freezing with maximum at almost 12 to 14 °C. Kanpur experiences severe fog in December and January with temperature dropping to -1°C. However, it does not snow in Kanpur.

It is situated on National Highway 2 on the Delhi-Agra-Allahabad-Calcutta route and on National Highway No. 25 on the Lucknow-Jhansi-Shivpuri route. Buses are run by Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) connect Kanpur to various centres in the region, such as Lucknow, Allahabad, Varanasi, Agra, Unnao, Rae Bareilly, Kannauj and Jhansi.

Economy and Industrial Scenario of Kanpur

• Kanpur has emerged as a major industrial area of North India.
• It is one of the biggest producer of Textile and Leather products which are exported world wide.
• The first cotton textile mill, the Elgin Mills were started Kanpur in 1862 and Moiré Mills in 1882.
