Climate in Madurai
Madurai's climate is hot and humid like the rest of the Deccan plateau.
In summer May is the hottest month. The maximum temperature during
summers is around 37 degree celcius. The winters from December to
February are very pleasant with maximum temperature around 20 degree
celcius. Monsoons (September- November) are wet with intermittent
showers.

- Air : There are daily flights to Madurai from
Chennai, Bangalore, Tiruchi and Coimbatore. Madurai Airport is just
10 Km away from the city.
- Rail : It is an important railway junction of
the Southern Railway and is directly connected to Chennai and
Tirunelveli. The Vaigai Express, which is a super-fast day train
between Chennai and Madurai takes 7 hours.
- Road : There are excellent roads connecting
Madurai to all parts of South India. Madurai has five major bus
stand.

Education in Madurai
Madurai is a major center of higher learning. It is home of India's
oldest institutions. The American and Madura Colleges are two such
institutions that are living tributes to a century old legacy. Madurai
has a Medical College known as the Madurai Medical College (MMC), an
Agricultural College and a Law College. Madurai city pioneered the
concept of Distance Education throughout India. There are several other
Arts and Science colleges affiliated to the Madurai Kamaraj University.
The city also has Engineering Colleges, Polytechnics, Paramedical and
Nursing Colleges.
Economy of Madurai
- Madurai is chiefly an agrarian economy.

- It is famous for "Sungadi", a fine count, zari
bordered, fabric painted cotton saree.
