Car Moving Tips

Car is one of the most precious possession one has. Relocating it involves lot of headache as well as care. Sometimes people just sell off their car to get rid of the troubles engaged in moving it to new place. But here we provide you with the complete solution of relocating your car safely by hiring an auto mover company. This option would ensure the safety of your car to a maximum extent.

Points that should be taken care of while choosing any auto mover:
  • Before going on for any company, make sure that it has a valid licensing and the license is active with transportation agency such as Federal Department Of Transportation.

  • Check out for the company's previous records in terms of its service or reliability from Better Business Bureau, Employee Relocation Council, American Moving and Storage Association, Household Goods Forwarders Association or any others to make a better judgment.

  • If possible try to make a written agreement with the company after reading the clauses carefully.

  • Confirm whether the company has its own truck or is it just the broker that has some haulers.

Things that should be kept in mind before shipping your car:
  • Make sure that you have taken all your personal belongings from the car before it is ready for shipping as moving companies would not be responsible for any loss.

  • Don't forget to put your car alarm on an off mode as it can be a major problem for the car mover to turn it off if it starts alarming.

  • Keep the level of gas up to a quarter of tank as it will reduce the additional weight of the car. Fuel must be emptied from car or motorcycles before and disconnect the battery of motorcycles as well.

  • Valuable spare items like fog lights or spoilers must be taken off.

  • If your car has any leakage problem, inform your moving company so that they can place your car suitably to prevent any leakage.

  • Keep the xerox of the registration and insurance papers of your car in the glove compartment.

Make a thorough inspection of your car before handling it to the moving company so that you can claim any damage thereafter. You can also have dated pictures of the vehicle, this would be even more effective in claiming the damage. Make a vehicle condition report before handling it by keeping in mind the following points:

  • The condition report must include current mileage, pre-existing damage of any type including such as glass, scratches, paint, dents etc. this report would be helpful in case of any later disputes.

  • By making use of the vehicle condition report, make a complete inspection of the vehicle.

  • Also check for the changes not mentioned in the original report. look for the changes in the mileage after receiving the vehicle.

  • In case of any damage on receiving the vehicle, don't forget to notify it on the condition report and get it signed by the driver.

  • Avoid the handling of your vehicle at night as you might not be able to inspect it completely.

  • Ask your mover for the shipping of your before 3 or 4 weeks of your move. This would give you enough time to plan your other arrangements.
  • Don't forget to get the 3 day assured window for the pick- up and delivery dates of your car. Try to get this agreement in writing.

  • In case if you are not there to pick- up your car, then you must ask the moving company to make arrangements for placing your car at the safe place until you come to receive it.
