 The
second largest city in the Indian state of Karnataka, Mysore has played
a significant role in the history of South India. Mysore is the
administrative seat of Mysore District and Mysore Division and also a
popular tourist destination.
Demography
As per 1991 census, the district had a population of 22,81,653. In
2006, the urban population of the city of Mysore is 8.2 lakhs.
Climate in Mysore
Mysore's climate is pleasant. It enjoys a temperate climate, with
summer temperatures ranging from 21 to 34 degrees celsius. The winter
temperatures ranges from 12 to 30 degrees celsius. The city gets monsoon
rain in the June-October period.
How to reach Mysore?
Mysore is well connected with the rest of the country by roads, railway
and airway.
- Roads: The highways No. 17, 33, 86, 88 pass
through Mysore connecting it to nearby cities. To significantly
reducing the commute time, the existing two lane road linking Mysore
to Bangalore has been upgraded to a four-lane highway. Mysore has
intra-city, inter-city and suburban public bus transportation.
- Rail: Mysore is the railway junction for the
district and rail lines connect Mysore city to Bangalore and other
cities of the country.
- Air: Mysore's nearest airport is at Bangalore.
The Mandkalli Airport, approximately 4 miles from the city, is
currently not under operation.
