An
industrial township in Orissa, Rourkela is also known as the commercial
capital of Orissa. This city has a huge iron and steel manufacturing
base. One of the largest steel plants of the country, Steel Authority of
India Limited (SAIL) is situated here.

As per 2001 census, the population of the city was 4,84,292. Sex Ratio
during the same year was 835 females per 1000 males.

Due to oceanic influence, summers are very hot with temperature
reaching maximum to 45 degree celcius and winters are cold. Monsoon
Rainfall is during the period June to September. The climate is
generally humid.
